The MIDI mapper is the default device on MS-Windows that almost every MIDI playing application uses. It forwards MIDI commands to other MIDI devices, depending on its configuration. Most applications will not let you choose the MIDI output device -- they simply assume that the mapper was correctly configured.

Hi Jim. As I'm totally obsessed by pulseaudio causing sound problems on F8, I'd suggest removing the alsa-plugins-pulseaudio package, then see if the sound works. Just a shot in the dark, and maybe I've got pulseaudio on the brain, but other folks have got their sounds up by removing that package. Nigel.

Pulse audio became dominant, people hated it because it was full of bugs, but now it is all fixed and working well. JACK has remained the best and only choice for pro audio on Linux. If you read online that Linux audio is a fragmented joke, refer them to this article and tell them it’s 2017 now.

Jack is a audio daemon for Linux that performs a similar function to Pulseaudio, but is intended for a wholly different audience. Jack is intended as a low-latency audio and midi router for audio production.
